Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to the most common Vancouver parking questions.

How much does street parking cost in Vancouver?
Most paid blocks range from $2 to $9 per hour, with the highest rates in downtown, the West End, and around major hospitals. Rates can change throughout the day. Use the map to check the current rate for any block.
When is street parking free in Vancouver?
Paid hours vary by block, but on most blocks parking is free overnight (typically 10 PM to 8 or 9 AM) and on statutory holidays. Some areas now have Sunday paid hours too — always check the sign on your block.
How do I pay for street parking in Vancouver?
Vancouver removed all parking meters in 2020. Every paid block is now PayByPhone-only — install the PayByPhone app (or call the number on the sign), enter the zone number and your licence plate, and choose how long to park.
What is a PayByPhone zone number?
A PayByPhone zone is a 4-digit code (e.g. 7345) that identifies a specific paid-parking block. The number is printed on the parking signs and on each block face. The map shows every zone with its current rate.
How long can I park on the street?
Most paid blocks allow stays of 2 to 4 hours during paid hours. Once you hit the max you have to move to a different zone. Some residential streets allow longer stays. Tap a marker on the map for the exact limit on that block.
What happens if I don't pay for parking in Vancouver?
Enforcement is plate-based — bylaw officers scan licence plates against PayByPhone's database. If you haven't paid (or have stayed past your max), you can be ticketed. There's no physical receipt to display.
